ISLE OF WIGHT Challenge – May 2017
National 3 Peaks Challenge – JUNE 2016
Hunters Hill Technology College is a school offering special education to
students from across the city of Birmingham. We work to provide a structured,
calm and sympathetic approach to individuals who are insecure, lacking in
confidence and have hitherto experienced failure in mainstream school. For our
students to experience life enriching opportunities, staff work exceptionally hard to organise a wide range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year. We aim to provide, and are actively working towards one such experience for a group of our disadvantaged students this year.
The students taking part in the Coast to Coast challenge come from all areas of
the city. The students in Years 10 and 11 are set to start at Whitehaven and finishing in Sunderland three days later. All money raised will go to the schools charity which helps to support the students in various activities through the year.
"On the 18th to 21st May 2015, 10 students and 8 staff from Hunters Hill did cycling, swimming and walking 200 miles from Bangor to Cardiff, where they will help raise money for our own School Charity. The event did comprise of four days, where students and staff will cycle 170 miles, walk over the top of Pen-y-fan In Brecon and swim the coast of Caernarfon.
North to South Triathlon Challenge
North & South 2015
From 29th June to 1st July we will be attempting the National 3 Peaks Challenge where we will be scaling the 3 highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, inside a 24 hour window. This will help us raise awareness of the school and money to enable us to provide experiences and equipment for students across the school. The three teams of eight, plus three drivers, will struggle against the clock to complete the once in a lifetime challenge. The goal is to give pupils the chance to learn to support each other, motivate each other and build up teamwork whilst completing something that they would never normally have the opportunity to be part of. The whole team will need great levels of patience, endurance, resilience and effective communication, all of which we try to teach our pupils, regardless of their backgrounds. These are useful and desirable life skills for leading a socially acceptable and independent lifestyle when they leave Hunters Hill Technology College.
The previous 2 years have seen us undertake, and very successfully complete, two extremely challenging events — completing the North to South Challenge from Bangor to Cardiff and cycling Coast to Coast from Whitehaven to Sunderland. The aim of this year’s event is to not only replicate the success of the past 2 years, but to increase the level of challenge, not only physically, but by increasing the level of support from successful companies who want to be seen to champion these disadvantaged teenagers and be part of celebrating great achievements. We would be honoured to accept financial support or support in kind, such as donations of equipment, time or resources, for our challenge and for the development of our pupils. We will be proud to acknowledge such valued support on our school website, event t-shirts, in the press and on our school minibuses
